Aboriginal communities in Australia's Northern Territory recorded their first community transmission of the COVID19 virus in November 2022. A multi-agency task force including the Australian Defence Force, Police, Health and Welfare Group was immediately formed, and deployed to Binjari to support the community and contain the outbreak.
As right-wing news outlets started publishing harmful disinformation, I was deployed with the team to manage on-site media interest and create content within the community to fill the information vacuum.
Working in the tightly locked-down community I was able to record and publish video testimonials, news cutaway footage and photos which were published nationally and internationally, and cited by National Indigenous Television as "a slap in the face" to those spreading disinformation.
